2. OIE Check-In
- U.S. Federal Regulations require all international student visa holders to complete the OIE check-in.

- OIE Check-In changes students' immigration record from "Initial" to "Active"
- Checking each immigration record is each student's responsibility
- Failure to Check-in can terminate the student's immigration status. The students can be expelled from the U.S.
3. How to complete my OIE Check-in?
- Log into iStart
- Select 1. F/J student arrival and Check-in
- Select Fall 2023 OIE Check-In
- Pre-Arrival: Submit the Arrival Confirmation
- If you plan to arrive late, submit the "Student Administrative Processing Visa Delay" e-form within iStart.
- The request will be sent to the student's academic department.
- OIE cannot update the student's I-20 form until the academic departments confirm their support.
- Pre-Arrival: Read through the regulation acknowledgment to maintain the legal status in the U.S

- Post-Arrival: confirm your arrival to the U.S. by logging into iStart and complete the remaining 2 e-forms within the OIE Check-in e-forms.

- Maintain Full-time enrollment and progress
- Can register up to 3 audit hours
- Do not have any limitations on the number of credits a student can take as pass/fail.
- If you consider withdrawing from the course, please consult with the ISSS advisor before withdrawing.
- If you are in your final term and have less than 12 credits remaining in your program, please complete the Academic Reduced Course Load e-form in iStart before the end of the first week of classes.

7. Employment
- Eligible On-Campus Employment for up to 20 hours during academic terms.
- Prior to starting employment on-campus, consult with HR to ensure the proper paperwork has been filed.

- The on-campus employment is not restricted to its place. It means that you are paid by Georgia Tech, or ppl who are related to Georgia Tech.
- There can be a limit on hours during breaks. Consult with HR!
- Must obtain OPT or CPT in order to work for off-campus employment. (Required At least 1-year active F1 visa status)
8. Keep your SEVIS record updated
- Report any changes of below within 10 days of the change, regardless of the changes in Georgia Tech's student information system.

9. [Master's Extension] If you want to continue studying beyond the end date on the I-20,
- Request a program extension through iStart.
- Note that students cannot request the extension after the program end date noted on I-20.
- If the student do not extend within the end date, he/she need to apply for reinstatement to regain student status.
10. [Master's -> PhD] If you want to continue in a different academic level,
- Apply for a Change of Degree Level through iStart.
- ISSS will then issue a new I-20.
11. International Travel
- You must have a valid travel signature on your I-20/DS-2019 form as well as F-1 visa(stamp).
- Each signature is valid for 1 year for f-1 students and 6 months while on OPT.
- To obtain a new travel signature, complete the Travel Signature Request e-form in iStart.
- Be aware of the expiration date written on the visa.
- Be aware of the number of Entries written on the visa.
- 'M' refers to 'UNLIMITED time' of entries to the US.
- The specific number refers to the limited time of entries to the US.
9. Summary
- Living in the US can be really different from the country where you lived.
