PRE-departure Checklist

Common things

1. Register Visa.
   • Get I-20 from school.
   • Pay for sevis(Student and Exchange Visitor Information system) fee.
   • Register Visa Interview.
   • Get Visa (https://ilyanglogis.co.kr/)
2. Register on-campus housing, or Get contract for off-campus housing.
3. Pay for first one month for housing.
4. Reserve flight as early as possible.!
5. Get Immunization Vaccines.
6. Issue the international driver license.
7. Register Student ID card. (ex. Buzzcard in Georgia Tech)
8. Activate the school official email.
9. Plan my courses before the course registration date.
10. Attend Webinars & Seminars & Orientation held in school.
11. Packing
12. Meet many people as much as possible.!

Work

1. Clear my works in the company & Takeover my all works.
2. Retirement interview with my boss & HR and calculate day-offs.
3. Open IRP Retirement Account.

Medical services in Korea

1. Meet as many doctors as possible! (ex. dentists, ophtalmologists, otolaryngologists, and all kinds of health screening.)
2. Keep as many emergency medicines as possible.

Extending money

1. Sell as much investments as possible. (ex. stocks, coin, gold, silver, books..)
2. Cancel OTT services (ex. melon, youtube premium, netflix, coupang..)
3. Open an Overdraft Account when my credit rating is highest.!
   • Need to assign the overdraft account as my salary account.
   • Need to increase my credit rating by using credit card. (more than 300 dollars per month)
   • (my case) Nonghyup bank: Up to 1 million won @ interest rate 5.69%
4. Cancel the current insurance in Korea. (Or suspend if can).
5. Cancel Private Pension.
   • Submit retirement certification after retirement.
   • Submit the application received from the assigned bank.
   • Submit ID
   • Email the documents when all are prepared.

Prepare for post-arriving

1. Purchase U-Sim for first couple of days (ex. 10 days)

2. Issue Check card for exchanging money (ex. travelog card)

3. Register my own overseas remittance agency. (ex. KEB hana bank: 8000~10000 won for remit)

   • Submit register letter & Identification card to the agency.
4. Deactivate current mobile agency & Activate MVNO(Mobile Virtual NEtwork Operator)

5. Look for bank accounts in United States and decide the name of the account that I will open.
6. Look for mobile plans in United States and decide the mobile plan that I will register.
   • What I chose: iPhone SE 3rd generation @ mint mobile family plan (1 yr $44/mo and $15/mo after 1 yr)
